She stretched in a new direction, crushing fresh grass below her paws she moved. A scent mixed though, something different. It lingered to, nostrils flared taking it in deep as her attention was drawn. Curiosity sometimes rumbled to life inside her. Her muscles though had gotten used to the fake out and failed to respond as though she was going to do anything.
It was suddenly like she was a new born fawn, her muscles uneasy as she pulled them below her in a clumsy fashion. That scent lingered but then began to fade. Something was pulling her after - maybe it was from having the sun warm her for so long or maybe because it was familiar and different. Jaws snapped in a yawn as she crept after curiously.
What was it? Why this? Her head raised to see the shadow of the creature she assumed the scent came from, running along the outskirts of the shadows. Brave enough to be seen, but not enough to cut in to the meadow with her.
She lingered for a moment before she began after it, it taking a few paces before muscle memory kicked in and she began stalking like the predator she was.
His head snapped around as he heard her shift in weight to raise. His own nostrils flared, picking up the multiple scents he couldn't pin point the one she was stalking yet. His own eyes locking on the same figure skirting the edge of the shadows.
There had been so many false starts that he waited, watching her attempt to regain her posture. It wasn't till she was on the move that he began after her. Allowing just enough distance to see her and the target but to not be seen him self.
She wasn't the only one curious this time.
She felt like she was fumbling like a new kitten, clumsy and not as graceful as she should have been in this hunt. When the creatures ears went back she knew it was aware of her. She resisted the sinking feeling of defeat this time.
It was only when it paused she halted her chase, her head tilting as she lowered to the ground. Looking the creature over curiously, confused as to what it was that was drawing her in. She didn't dare look away, but a ear flicked back to catch the sound of him behind her.
That tail flickering ever so slightly in agitation. It was prey, yet not some how. Low crawl steps creeping in on the creature. Careful now.
He'd give her one edge, moving wide to one side to flank the creature. He wasn't sure why this one, but if it was something that held her interest he'd give her the chance to explore it for the moment.
Anything to see her hunting again, as long as she was safe. But he was uncomfortable - his attention now divided more. Between her, the focus of her curiosity as well as the roaming creatures that now closed the space, curious as well to see her moving.
Uncomfortable with this delima it was becoming he moved to her side. His focus becoming intent on the creatures closing in on her as she seemed unphased.
She could feel the tension building in her muscles, an old friend sinking in like water in to the parched earth after a dry spell. Those steps refining as she honed her attention on the creature alone, trusting him to keep her safe as she tried to figure out why and what had drawn her from her spot.
She only broke that attention when he closed the space, breaching the normally kept distance between them. Her head snapping around to look at him, confused - not just by the distance but because of what was even happening. It was if she was waking from a long dream.
Her eyes went back to where the creature should have been but now it was gone. Confusion crossed her face as she stood, looking in the shadows as she relieved her self. Uncaring of the gathering crowd. She had to find it.
That tension sprang free and suddenly she was running, the curious with a will to live diving out of her path as she cut through the under brush like thunder. Deep breaths pulling in the scents as she sorted and turned - tailing the one that pulled her.
Her sudden motion left him shocked for a moment, as he watched after the path she took in to the forest. It took him a moment to spring in to action behind her, cutting through the underbrush as near as he could tell to the path she took.
Pausing only momentarily when the scents mixed too much to pick her well known one from the rest. The air was thicker here - scents lingered longer. Some were old while hers was fresh along with the earth she turned up from her sudden pursuit. He could hear the chatter of the other creatures as they began following always curious of the things that went on around them.
He wasn't sure if he should be excited or scared as he found him self having to hunt her as she hunted her own prey.
